The work takes shape from the attempt to transform one thing into another through a minimal passage, a minimal operation. In this case, the simple and elementary gesture of cutting a flag, breaking it down and stitching the fragments back together, is able to give life to a sort of celestial vault that can recall a Giotto's starry ceiling. Her dismembering and sewing together hundreds of European flags leads the artist to undo the usual circular formation of the community standard, to leave them freely scattered, to generate new constellations. The color of this new sky, made up of different assortments of blue due to the different origins and types of flags used, seems to allude to the diversity that characterizes the member countries of the European Union themselves. What Vestrucci creates is a potentially infinite operation, with a design capable of moving and generating itself following small displacements.
L'opera prende forma dal tentativo di trasformare una cosa in un'altra attraverso un minimo passaggio, una minima operazione. In questo caso, il semplice ed elementare gesto di tagliare una bandiera, scomponendola e ricucendo insieme i frammenti, è in grado di dare vita a una sorta di volta celeste che può ricordare un soffitto stellato giottesco. Il suo smembrare e ricucire centinaia di bandiere europee porta l'artista a disfare la consueta formazione circolare dello stendardo comunitario, per lasciarle liberamente sparse, a generare una nuova costellazione. Il colore di questo cielo, composto da diversi assortimenti di blu a causa anche della differente provenienza e tipologia delle bandiere utilizzate, sembra voler alludere alle diversità che caratterizzano gli stessi paesi membri dell'Unione Europea. Quella che Vestrucci crea è un’operazione potenzialmente infinita, con un disegno in grado di muoversi e generarsi in seguito a piccoli spostamenti.

Serena Vestrucci (Milan, 1986), after graduating with a bachelor's degree from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, moved to Venice, where she earned a master's degree in Visual Arts at the IUAV University of Venice. Serena Vestrucci (Milano, 1986), dopo la laurea triennale presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, si trasferisce a Venezia, dove consegue la laurea magistrale in Progettazione e Produzione delle Arti Visive all’Università IUAV di Venezia. Serena Vestrucci ha esposto il proprio lavoro in mostre personali presso numerose istituzioni italiane, tra cui: Galleria Renata Fabbri, Milano; Galleria d’Arte Moderna, Verona; Museo Archeologico Salinas, Palermo; Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Villa Croce, Genova.
