“Tre Titoli” is a film that adopts participatory strategies to intertwine historical anecdotes of political experiences of the peasants of Southern Italy with the more recent dynamics of a Ghanaian community which, in recent years, has occupied abandoned houses while working in the fields of Tre Titoli, near Cerignola (Apulia). “Tre Titoli” is a film made in the homelands of the anti-fascist trade union leader Giuseppe Di Vittorio (1892 - 1957) and traverses the evolution and transformation of the labor class throughout the twentieth century: from peasants to Central African workers, seeking – along the routes of illegal hiring - the reasons that today produce new victims and new perpetrators. In an attempt to give an answer, or at least a form, to questions and anomalies that can emerge from a local scale, Nico Angiuli encourages a process of discovery, investigation and re-enactment based on a heterogeneous cultural and social heritage made available to institutional figures, free citizens and "new residents", in particular those of the Ghanaian community who settled in the Tre Titoli area. This community has been involved by the artist in a series of workshops that have led him to the construction of a choral film story whose result is obtained from the contribution that each participant has given in the phases of designing the project, drafting the screenplay and acting. Accompanying the video project is a six-part photographic series, "Ideology and Matter", 2015. “Tre Titoli” is curated by Vessel, is supported by Connecting Cultures, MIC and Casa Di Vittorio, and is a winner of the III Edition of the "Art, Heritage and Human Rights" Award, 2014.
“Tre Titoli” è un film che adotta strategie partecipative per intrecciare aneddoti storici di esperienze politiche dei contadini del Sud Italia con le dinamiche più recenti di una comunità ghanese che, negli ultimi anni, ha occupato delle case abbandonate durante il periodo di lavoro nei campi di Tre Titoli, vicino Cerignola (Puglia). “Tre Titoli” è un film realizzato nelle terre natie del capo sindacalista antifascista Giuseppe Di Vittorio (1892 - 1957) e attraversa l'evoluzione e la trasformazione della classe bracciantile lungo il Novecento: dai cafoni ai lavoratori centrafricani, cercando – lungo le rotte del caporalato – le ragioni che oggi producono nuove vittime e nuovi carnefici. Nel tentativo di dare una risposta, o almeno una forma, a domande e anomalie che possono uscire da una scala locale, Nico Angiuli incoraggia un processo di scoperta, indagine e rievocazione fondato su un eterogeneo patrimonio culturale e sociale costituito a disposizione di figure istituzionali, liberi cittadini e “nuovi residenti”, in particolare quelli della comunità ghanese insediatasi nella zona di Tre Titoli. Questa comunità è stata coinvolta dall'artista in una serie di workshop che lo hanno portato alla costruzione di un racconto filmico corale il cui risultato è ottenuto dal contributo che ciascun partecipante ha dato nelle fasi dell’ideazione del progetto, della stesura della sceneggiatura e della recitazione. Accompagna il progetto video una serie fotografica in sei elementi, “Ideologia e materia”, 2015. “Tre Titoli” è a cura di Vessel, è supportato da Connecting Cultures, MIC e Casa Di Vittorio, ed è vincitore della III Edizione del Premio “Arte, Patrimonio e Diritti Umani”, 2014.
Nico Angiuli
Nico Angiuli (Adelfia, 1981), lives in Berlin. He is professor of Performing Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari. In his artistic work he deals with the relationship between body and work, unorganized forms of resistance, issues related to agricultural culture and magical realism. He frequently works with associations and informal groups. His films and his works have been presented at the 16th Rome Quadrennial; at the 2nd Kiev Biennale; several times at the MART Museum in Rovereto, Italy; at the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation in Turin, Italy; at the National Theater of Tirana and at the Pino Pascali Museum in Italy; several occasions at the Bozar Museum in Brussels. Angiuli was nominated with his project “Contraintre” for the Visible Award (2017) and for the VIII edition of the German-Italian VAF Prize (2019).

Nico Angiuli (Adelfia, 1981), vive a Berlino. È docente di Performing Arts all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Bari. Nel suo lavoro artistico si occupa della relazione tra corpo e lavoro, forme di resistenza non organizzate, questioni legate alla cultura agricola e al realismo magico. Lavora frequentemente con associazioni e gruppi informali. I suoi film e le sue opere sono stati presentati alla 16° Quadriennale di Roma; alla 2a Biennale di Kiev; più volte al Museo MART di Rovereto, Italia; alla Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo di Torino, Italia; al Teatro Nazionale di Tirana e al Museo Pino Pascali in Italia; in diverse occasioni al Bozar Museum di Bruxelles. Angiuli è stato candidato con il suo progetto “Contraintre” al Visible Award (2017) e all'VIII edizione del German-Italian VAF Prize (2019).
