“Starting from an interest for the mutation of things by the effect of the near environment, I invent systems and formulas to be able to study or predict the attitude of a given element whose ‘movement’ depends on other factors (advection). It’s an incessant study on the unpredictable, the continuous and not totally controllable transformation, the attempt to fix what escapes us, the unforeseen, the chaos, the fluid, the movement. One of the greatest mysteries of light is that it is both corpuscle and wave. When waves pass through us, we are not carried to shore, but our body is alternately pulled up and down. Water does not move toward the land, it just goes up and down in the same place. When we observe waves moving toward us, it is not the mass of water that sweeps over us, but the wave. Similarly, light is not the propagation of a material substance, but that of a form in constant metamorphosis and incessant movement. Therefore, to better understand the interaction between light and matter, it would be necessary to study the unpredictable, the continuous and not totally controllable transformation, to try to follow what eludes us, the unexpected, the chaos, the fluid" (Agathe Rosa).
With this work we find ourselves immersed in a floating, luminous space: a portion of light is projected in front of us. The video captures the imperceptible boundary at which air and water meet, so much so that we can no longer distinguish between one element and the other. The work alludes to a state of fluidity, suspension and interchangeability, and thus evokes a fading boundary between two states of matter and thus between two states of being.
"Partendo da un interesse verso la mutevolezza delle cose per effetto dell’ambiente circostante, invento sistemi e formule per poter studiare o prevedere l’atteggiamento di un dato elemento il cui movimento dipende da fattori altri (advection). È uno studio incessante dell'imprevedibile, della trasformazione continua e non totalmente controllabile, del tentativo di fissare ciò che ci sfugge, l'imprevisto, il caos, il fluido, il movimento. Uno dei più grandi misteri della luce è che è sia corpuscolo che onda. Quando le onde ci attraversano, non veniamo portati a riva, ma il nostro corpo viene alternativamente tirato su e giù. L’acqua non si muove verso la terra, va solo su e giù nello stesso posto. Quando osserviamo le onde muoversi verso di noi, non è la massa d’acqua che ci travolge, ma l’onda. Allo stesso modo, la luce non è la propagazione di una sostanza materiale, ma quella di una forma in costante metamorfosi e movimento incessante. Per comprendere meglio l’interazione tra luce e materia sarebbe quindi necessario studiare l’imprevedibile, la trasformazione continua e non totalmente controllabile, cercare di seguire ciò che ci sfugge, l’inaspettato, il caos, il fluido” (Agathe Rosa).
Con quest’opera ci ritroviamo immersi in uno spazio galleggiante e luminoso: una porzione di luce è proiettata di fronte a noi. Il video riprende l’impercettibile confine presso il quale aria e acqua si incontrano, tanto da non riuscire a distinguere più tra un elemento e l’altro. L’opera allude a uno stato di fluidità, sospensione e interscambiabilità, ed evoca così un confine in dissolvenza tra due stati della materia e quindi tra due stati dell’essere.

Agathe Rosa (Annecy-le-Vieux, 1987) lives and works in Marseille. She graduated from the National School of Architecture of Marseille with honors in 2011. Agathe Rosa is represented by the gallery Société Interludio, Turin. Her work has been presented internationally in many institutions such as: CNES – La Chartreuse, Villeneuve-Lez-Avignon; Italian Cultural Institute, Marseille; Museo Helio Oiticica, Rio de Janeiro; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Museo Santa Maria della Scala, Siena; Museo Raffaele de Grada, San Gimignano; Saint-Exupéry Cultural Center, Reims. Her work is rich in collaborations including "Prisme," with Emma Grosbois, selected for the Manifesta 13 Art Biennial, Marseille and "Spazio /nstabile", a curatorial project developed with the Italian collective "Fare Mente Locale" and selected in various Art and Architecture festivals in Tuscany. In parallel to her artistic research, she teaches as professor in Art and Techniques of representation at Ensa Marseille and she participated many seminars including: "Atelier Khora - Ville Paysage” at the Maison de l'Architecture et de la Ville, Marseille; "Discours Eupaliniens", Frac Paca, Marseille; "I mondi dell'arte", Accademia delle Belle Arti, Bologna.
Agathe Rosa (Annecy-le-Vieux, 1987) vive e lavora a Marsiglia. Si laurea presso la Scuola Nazionale Superiore di Architettura di Marsiglia nel 2011. Rappresentata dalla galleria Société Interludio, Torino, il suo lavoro è stato presentato in molte istituzioni come: Centro Nazionale di Scrittura - La Chartreuse, Villeneuve-Lez-Avignon; Istituto Culturale Italiano, Marsiglia; Museo Helio Oiticica, Rio de Janeiro; Centre Pompidou, Parigi; Museo Santa Maria della Scala, Siena; Museo Raffaele de Grada, San Gimignano; Centro Culturale Saint-Exupéry, Reims. Il suo lavoro è ricco di collaborazioni tra cui "Prisme", con Emma Grosbois, selezionata per la Biennale d'Arte Manifesta 13, Marsiglia e "Spazio /nstabile", un progetto curatoriale sviluppato con il collettivo italiano "Fare Mente Locale" e selezionato in vari festival di Arte e Architettura in Toscana. In parallelo alla sua ricerca artistica, è professoressa di Arti e Tecniche della rappresentazione presso la Scuola di Architettura di Marsiglia e ha partecipato a diversi seminari, tra cui: "Atelier Khora – Città paesaggio” alla Casa dell'Architettura e della Città, Marsiglia; “Discours Eupaliniens” al Fondo Regionale di Arte Contemporanea, Marsiglia; “I mondi dell'arte”, Accademia delle Belle Arti, Bologna.
