This series of works was born in 2020 during the lockdown, starting from a reflection around the experience of space limitation and the ability to move freely. “During those weeks, locked in our confined spaces, our bodies instead of moving freely and walking, running, meeting each other, were relegated inside the domestic walls: our behaviors followed a rigid pattern, alienating, no longer dictated by any drive but biological, suspended all of a sudden. So, away from my studio, I imagined my body free to move, I imagined being aware of every tension and stretching of tissues: ‘Now your mind transforms your body into what you visualize: water, earth, animals...,’ I thought. Every process within the body begins with breathing. These drawings portray bodies that allow themselves to pass through, are present, human, untied at times and yet harmonious, free to explore their inner space, even going beyond their limits. Human beings tend to always make the same movements, and walk the same paths; we are lazy and habitual. The bodies I drew break behavioral patterns, searching for the origin of their strength, slowing down, speeding up, heating up, cooling down, becoming evanescent or hard. As I drew them, exploring the potential of a lead made into dust, I discovered the great versatility of graphite that became compact and decisive line or volumetric geometry. And as these bodies materialized, I wondered: what will we do once we return to normal? Will we be the same or will there be a revolution within us?” (Raziel Perin)
"Corpi liberi” è una serie di disegni nata nel 2020 durante il lockdown, a partire da una riflessione attorno all’esperienza della limitazione degli spazi e della possibilità di muoversi liberamente. “I nostri corpi anziché passeggiare, correre, incontrarsi, erano relegati dentro le mura domestiche: i nostri comportamenti seguivano un rigido pattern, alienante, non più dettato da nessuna pulsione se non biologica, sospesi tutto d’un tratto. Così, lontano dal mio studio, immaginavo il mio corpo libero di muoversi, immaginavo di essere cosciente di ogni tensione e allungamento dei tessuti: ‘Ora la tua mente trasforma il tuo corpo in ciò che visualizzi: acqua, terra, animali…’, pensavo. Ogni processo all’interno del corpo inizia dalla respirazione. Questi disegni ritraggono corpi che si lasciano attraversare, sono presenti, umani, slegati a volte eppure armonici, liberi di esplorare il proprio spazio interiore, andando anche oltre ai propri limiti. I corpi che ho disegnato rompono i pattern comportamentali, cercano l’origine della loro forza, rallentano, accelerano, si scaldano, si raffreddano, divengono evanescenti o duri. Mentre li disegnavo, esplorando le potenzialità di una mina resa polvere, scoprivo la grande versatilità della grafite che si faceva linea compatta e decisa o geometria volumetrica. E mentre questi corpi si materializzavano mi chiedevo: che faremo una volta tornati alla normalità? Saremo gli stessi o ci sarà una rivoluzione dentro di noi?" (Raziel Perin)
Raziel Perin
Raziel Perin is a Dominican and Italian artist born in 1992 in Hato Mayor del Rey, Dominican Republic. He lives and works between Milan (Italy) and Rotterdam (Netherlands). Raziel Perin holds a degree in Visual Arts from the New Academy of Fine Arts (NABA) in Milan, Italy. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad.
Raziel Perin è un artista dominicano e italiano nato nel 1992 a Hato Mayor del Rey, Repubblica Dominicana. Vive e lavora tra Milano e Rotterdam. Si è laureato in Arti Visive presso NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, Milano. Ha partecipato a numerose mostre in Italia e all'estero.
